Francesca Forrest reviews Shiny Thing for a special issue of Not One of Us: Under Review.

“I feel evangelical about Patricia Russo’s Shiny Thing, which would probably cause some folks to look askance south of Blue Street, the rundown city neighborhood where a number of the collection’s stories are set. Folks living south of Blue Street have life hard enough as it is; the last thing they need is some evangelist coming along and testifying to them.”

Read the rest of the review here, on Francesa’s journal.

Marketing a book when the author doesn’t tweet or use Facebook or any of that other stuff is definitely a challenge. What we need is for the good denizens of the internet to help a sister out. Like Reda, in the story “Mister”, who helps a young girl write a sign on her chest so that out there, in the wasteland, if someone sees her they won’t be afraid to “say hi”.

The internet is like a wasteland, isn’t it. It’s far too easy to get lost out here.

Please feel free to quote anything on this website to help the cause, with credits of course, or to use any of the images you find here now and in the future. If you’d like a review copy, just say the word. If you’d like to interview Patricia, well, you just have to come up with the right questions.

Today a Shiny Thing is released into the world!

Papaveria Press is very pleased to announce the release of Shiny Thing, a collection of nineteen short stories by Patricia Russo, who may very well be one of the most mysterious authors working in the genre today. Or, she was, until she kindly agreed to talk with Papaveria about her writing in general and Blue Street in particular. Please have a look around the site to find out what Blue Street is (and if you do figure it out, let us know), and of course, don’t forget to buy the book!
